Description

RICE picked the name of their company because it is a basic survival product for many people in the world. They like to show people how the basics of everyday life can be made so much more enjoyable by bringing colour and a sense of fun to daily living, whether by using colourful accessories in the kitchen or by introducing colourful fabrics, textures and hints of humour in to the living room. Danish design is not all about cool and calm interiors. RICE Style is all about fun, colour and enjoyment. RICE creates innovative homewares collections that are ethically sourced and produced. They are in stores all over the world from Liberty in London and John Lewis in the UK and Illum in Copenhagen to Huset in Malibu and So Perfect Eats in Denver USA. The book features RICE style applied to a variety of homes, from a contemporary Copenhagen apartment to a simple country retreat, a comfortable family home to an ultra modern studio space. Happy Home is a beautiful demonstration of the RICE ethos, and how its warm and caring, fun and funky aesthetic can be applied in living spaces, kitchens, bedrooms, children's rooms and outdoor areas.

Author description

CHARLOTTE HEDEMAN GUENIAU founded RICE in 1998 a few months after her son Max was born. She and her French husband Phillippe wanted to change their lives, having lived and worked in Paris for 15 years, so moved to Odense, Denmark and founded their ethical homewares empire. Now, 13 years later, RICE Denmark has a lovely office and showroom in an old shipyard building near the waterfront in Odense. The pair design and source ethically produced products in Thailand and India and their wares can be found in the smartest stores worldwide. RICE Thailand employs 70 people, with several villages producing different collections. In India, Himanshu Singh roams around the country and sources products for the company, making sure that all suppliers are up to standards of the SA 8000 certification. HOLLY BECKER, an American freelance journalist, design consultant, and stylist, launched the decor8 blog in January 2006, and it is now an established site known as a reliable design resource with over a million page views monthly and 48,000 daily readers. In addition, Holly is a weekly columnist at Real Simple magazine online. She has also worked for a number of online magazines, including Domino and Cookie, and a television network, and she was a bi-weekly columnist for the Boston Globe in their Style & Arts section.
